This baseball player won an MVP award. He led his league once in RBI. He was named to the all star team many years in a row and once appeared in over 600 consecutive games. Who is he? If you heard the name, odds are you don't know much more than I wrote here.
How about Frank McCormick? He's the most obscure, pre-TV era MVP I can think of.
ReplyDeleteProbably McCormick yes who is a famous ironman. I know three might not be considered "many" but if you consider "many" to mean more than two, as I do, this also describes Miguel Tejada.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I actually do know a few things about McCormick. Took forever to get his chance because Chuck Dressen didn't like him; rescued by Bill McKechnie who realized from day one how good he was; part of a truly great infield with Werber, Frey and Myers; the four were called the "Jungle Cats" and at first Lonny Frey didn't want to let McCormick join the Jungle Cats because he didn't think he was inventive enough; he won them over and Frey gave him the "Wildcat" nickname that stuck with him the rest of his career...
